If I asked you what VNet integration for Dataverse was you'd probably think, "That's some nerdy Azure stuff that doesn't apply to me." Here me out - it's way easier than you think, and may even be the perfect fit for your project.

VNet Integration in Plain English:

Connects to Azure Easier

VNet integration simplifies connecting rom Dataverse to your Azure resources. e.g. If you connect Dataverse to Blob storage without VNet, you'll pass around unsecure API keys and painfully try to "whitelist" Power Automate addresses....while your IT department judges you for being unsafe.

Make Dataverse Super Safe

Right now, an unhappy employee at your company could deploy a Dataverse plugin that quietly steals data. Trusting that “everyone is honest” isn’t a security strategy. Or your Power Automate DocuSign connector could look perfectly normal while a malicious third‑party library silently steals data—because you don’t control or even see the connector’s code. This isn’t hypothetical: just Google “NPM supply chain compromise.” It happens every week.

The solution

VNet stops all the scenarios above because it moves all your plugin code and Power Automate connectors to YOUR Azure environment. They are locked down to only be able to talk to those resources. Even if the Plugin code is written to steal data...it can't! The Plugin code cannot send data outwards.

What they don't tell you

"Locking down" is a double-edged sword. That means the connectors you love like SharePoint, Outlook, etc, those are also not allowed to be used. That's right - all the Power Automate connectors that make your job easy...sorry not supported. Only Azure stuff.

How not to get punched in the face

If the answer to your questions below is YES, consider VNet. Otherwise, not worth the headache.

  • Do you work for a Bank, Hospital or the CIA where safe data protocols are super important?

  • Are the only resources your Dataverse connects to in Azure and you don't care about SharePoint, Outlook, etc.
